New Year's resolutions part 1

December 26th, 2006 at 02:21 pm

I'm going to start to think of one now... Since the year 2006 is going to end soon in about five days starting tomorrow.

Let's go to my first ever blog shall we?

#1 : Get a mutual fund [Got two checked]
#2 : Get a job [checked]
#3 : Wait till my 1st paycheck arrive [checked]
#4 : Separate my pay into different categories. [It's not possible for me at the moment but checked?]
#5 : Have some fun money left for the month. [checked]
#6 : Repeat # 3, 4 et 5. [checked]

The reason why I can't separate my money into different categories is because I don't know how much I'll be spending every month since I'm a teen and I have some unplanned purchases here and there with friends... I need to enjoy a little sometimes and save at the same. I guess I can't budget. There are months where I spend less than a 100$ and this month in particular, I already spent 389.05$. Most of the money I've spent are food... Man, I need to stop buying food. >.

Your brother seems to have the idea that if someone is saving money for something - retirement, education, a car - that he cannot have fun. There are lots of ways to have fun that involve spending little or no money. He's young. Maybe he will figure that out eventually.

Ah, the "spend it while you're young and can enjoy it!" argument.

I'm pushing the dinosaur age of 45, but I can still remember things from 25 yrs ago. The most fun things and great memories I had didn't involve money, and when I spent lots money, it was all on unmemorable stuff. Big Grin

I agree with crazyliblady and baselle (especially). Looking back at a few things now, although I saved and attained some of the goals. I should have saved more and made it a part of my daily living early in life. Perhaps looking back 25 years makes it more clear - save early. I can honestly say that I would have been so much better off if I wouldn't have bought that, and then there was this and that again, and again, and again. Some things were necessary, but then, a lot of things were just momentary pleasures. Your doing well - keep it up. You can save and have a fun life at the same time. You just need to look for the fun things that don't cost you now and in the future!
