I feel like quitting...

June 7th, 2007 at 03:54 pm

I feel like giving up on math... Geometry is not my thing and neither analysing a text into math is my thing... I don't know what to do anymore. I'm losing my frugal ways and my sense. Can't think anymore... Just 1 more and a half week to go. I have three math exams for tomorrow and the next two days of school. I don't remember anything at all.

I called a friend who know how I can get back my math in fall if ever I fail math 536 and also math 526. And I think I'm going to fail French... God I'm such a failure in society... Maybe business is not for me. What else can I do. T.T

My SIL has had trouble with school stuff. We think she might have a learning disability. BUT, she is really smart and she is not a society failure. In fact, she is head of or on the committee of several things in her home town. She takes care of a lot of organizational things and is the go to person for a lot of stuff. She was also always successful at her jobs. She just has a hard time with school. Don't think of yourself as a failure in life. There is a place where you will not only succeed but thrive and contribute!

YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE! You just have to work a little harder. I too am a business major and am struggling with accounting, the next time I take it, it will be the third time and I am not giving up. Now I do well in math, keep in mind we all have strong attributes and well as week ones. Try speaking with your instructors maybe you can do some extra credit also a lot of the math books have websites that you can go on for extra help. Here at the school that I attend we have math labs, I am not sure if your school offers this. Check with the "A" students in your class maybe they are willing to tutor

    good luck

I was a student once. Smile It sounds like you are in the midst of exam week where its exam, exam, exam, reading, all nighters, something you got on the go, all washed down with coffee with a tea bag with caffeine tablets in it. I found that when I could have written what you wrote above, it meant that I was close to a meltdown and needed sleep. Even a two hour nap brightened the outlook and meant the difference between thinking and not.

There's no rule that you have to have someone or a university to regard you as smart or stupid. You determine that by how much you want to succeed. A very popular example, Bill Gates, didn't graduate college because he had a brilliant idea and a love for what he did. Just do the same and you'll be fine :]

I agree with Baselle. Sounds like you need some sleep. Take care of yourself first. Smile

For what it's worth, i did really poorly in math in high school, too. I just didn't get it, but later i regretted not making more of an effort as i feel it affected what college i got into, and also as an adult it would really be helpful in many practical ways to be better in math. I'm fine with basic arithmetic, but if you started talking algebra or geometry or calculus to me, my eyes would glaze over.

But seriously, isn't there someone like a friend you can go to and sit down and spend some informal tutoring time with? Maybe you're just missing a few key pieces of the puzzle.

I used to HATE math at one point. But I got a really good tutor, and started loving it. So much so that I have a bachelor degree in it. Don't give up!
